Like everyone else, I always get asked the question ‘what do you do for work?’. Often, I’ll get blank faces staring back when I tell people I’m a reflexologist and reiki practitioner.
Reflexology is a complimentary therapy which aims to restore balance at the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. A reflexology treatment involves applying specific techniques to reflex points on the feet, which correlate to different organs and energy points in the body. During a session over 7,000 nerve endings are stimulated helping the body to activate its own innate healing system. The intention is for clients to go into a deep state of relaxation and restore energy to parts of the body which may be sluggish or harbouring stress.
During a treatment, clients are lying comfortably on a massage bed covered with a blanket and will often fall asleep or into a meditative state.
There are many associated benefits with reflexology and typically it is good to have four to six sessions to get maximum benefits.
Benefits include:
· Relaxation & stress relief
· Improved sleep
· Anxiety relief
· Managing symptoms of depression
· Pain relief (wonderful for PMS and neck and back pain)
· Restoring vitality and wellbeing
· Improved blood circulation
· Balance of hormones
· Reduced symptoms of nausea associated with pregnancy or chemotherapy treatment
· Constipation relief
· Balance restored in the whole body
It is important to acknowledge that reflexology is a complimentary treatment and that a reflexologist is not qualified to diagnose clients or cure illnesses. Instead, it is designed to activate the body’s own healing capability by helping people to move into a relaxed parasympathetic state to restore energy and instigate healing.
I personally love to both give reflexology and also love to receive treatments. If you would like to experience a reflexology session I would be honoured to hold space for you.
Love,
Vicki
