I have recently started to include essential oils on my health journey... and to say I am excited is an understatement. I have used a variety of different brands of oils over the past few years but never consistently or with great knowledge about the uses, benefits or the quality of different oils.
I was introduced to Young Living Essential Oils by my trusted and knowledgeable naturopath, Emily Rose Yates. Emily has been a wonderful healer and teacher of mine and I knew if she was hooked on these oils they must be good!
What exactly are essential oils?
Essential oils are the aromatic part of the plant and are often referred to as the life force or heart and soul of the plant. Essential oils are nutrient dense and are produced from botanicals such as trees, flowers and roots. Therapeutic grade oils such as Young Living are
said to be 100 - 10,000 more potent than dried herbs or spices meaning they have much more powerful healing qualities.
How do they work?
Aromatherapy is thought to work by stimulating smell receptors in the nose, which then send messages through the nervous system to the limbic system (the part of the brain that controls emotions). When oils are applied to the skin, their nutrient rich compounds are absorbed into the bloodstream and disperse to specific organs to being healing.
Essential oils also work from an energetic level. The human body vibrates at a frequency of 62-76 MegaHertz(MHz) when in perfect health. Illness can occur when the frequency drops to below 58MHz. Essential oils vibrate at a variety of frequencies and when topically applied, inhaled or injested can increase the bodies vibrational frequency.
There are many benefits of using therapeutic grade essential oils, many of which have scientific studies to back them up.
1. Balance Hormones
2. Support Digestion
3. Stress and Anxiety relief
4. Reduce Toxicity
5. Strengthen Hair and Nails
6. Improve Sleep Quality
7. Headache and Migraine Relief
8. Alleviate Aches and Pains
My favourite oils at the moment are:
Lavender:
Great for relaxing and calming the body and mind, reducing insomnia, anxiety and lowers cortisol levels in the body. Lavender can also be used topically to treat burns and cuts.
Peppermint:
A great oil to combat any flu like symptoms and also boosts energy! This oil powerfully clears the airways and very quickly helps to improve breathing, sinus issues and relieves headaches. I have also started using peppermint before exercising and it really helps me to feel more energised and alert.
Frankincense:
A great oil to help with calming the mind, I use it during meditation. Frankincense also contains anti-inflammatory compounds and helps with reducing brain fog or memory issues. I have also started using this oil on age spots and on my nails to help them grow. I will update soon with my results!
Copaiba:
Copaiba has been used for thousands of years in traditional medicine because of its immune boosting and anti inflammatory properties. Inflammation is the root cause of most diseases which is probably why copaiba is believed to be one of the most powerful substances on earth.
Panaway:
This is a unique Young living blend. Great from muscle tension and relieving aches and pains. Strong smelling (similar to tiger balm) but very effective.
Thieves: This is a fantastic oil which we use in a lot of our home cleaning products as it has anti bacterial properties. Thieves also helped us to eliminate mould in our previous home and for that I am truly grateful :)
Want to learn more about essential oils? Dr. Axe has many studies listed on his website and some really great articles (www.draxe.com).
If you would like to know anything further about any of these oils or wonder what oils might help you on your healing journey please do get in touch.
If you are planning on visiting me for a session, prepare for some beautiful smelling oils on your arrival.
Love,
Vicki
